I am honored to have the opportunity to help spread awareness of what type 1 diabetes (T1D) is, how it affects around 30,000 people a year and the progress that is being made in finding a cure!
You may be wondering..."what does Colby know about T1D? Why does she care?" To speak frankly, I didn't know much about T1D until a few weeks ago...and I'm still learning...a lot. However, I have met some really awesome people that are affected by it and it seems only right to join in spreading the word and help to raise money for this great organization.
There is no cure for T1D and many children and adults are forced to live with it while trying to maintain as normal of a life as possible. That's hard enough without T1D, isn't it?! Unfortunately, it can hit you unexpectedly and require you to live a life of constant insulin injections on a daily basis. Did you know:
- A person's current diet and lifestyle have nothing to do with the start of TD1
- Without continuous monitoring and testing of one's blood sugar, people with TD1 are at risk of low and high blood sugar reactions, which can be life threatening
- Other life altering events that can come along with diabetes are stroke, amputation, high-risk pregnancy and blindness to name a few.
My hope is that you'll join me in raising money for JDRF and consider attending this fall's ONE Party on November 7th.
